Continuing off yesterday's post, we often hear clients confuse voice with style. Voice is a developed way of writing that sets you apart while style encompasses how you write (i.e. detailed and complex or sparse and simple). Together they have the power to embody your unique brand.
For example, compare Stephen Hawking to Neil Gaiman (think It vs. American Gods). Their author voice is distinct, and this distinguishes them within their genre.
Or consider the use of voice in the personal branding of bloggers and social media influencers. Those platforms emphasize the voice of each blogger or influencer, and developing this contributes to their readers/followers engagement.
Still unsure? Note the differences in voice between the first page of Ernest Hemingway's Hills Like White Elephants to Maggie Nelson's Bluets.
